Meet our Faculty Dr. Magdy Hanna, Chairman

Dr. Hanna is a recognized educator, speaker and consultant in several areas of software engineering. His distinguished seminars on various topics have been highly rated by software professionals. His experience with software goes back to the mid 1970's, when he worked as a developer at the NCR Center and the American University in Cairo , Egypt . Over the last thirty-five years, Dr. Hanna has worked in all aspects and capacities of software projects and processes. He has trained over 50,000 professionals around the world over the last 20 years. His passion and enthusiasm for testing, process improvement, and software engineering are contagious.

Dr. Hanna is Founder, CEO, and Chairman of several organizations:

  1. International Institute for Software Testing (www.iist.org), leading educational and professional development organization that provides education-based certifications to software test and quality professionals around the world. Dr. Hanna serves as the Chairman of Advisory Board for the Certified Software Test Professional (CSTP) and the Certified Test Manager (CTM) credentials.

International Institute for Software Process (www.spinstitute.org), leading professional development organization that provides education-based certifications to software process improvement professionals around the world. Dr. Hanna serves as the Chairman of Advisory Board for the International Software Process Improvement Certification (ISPIC).

  5. RommanaTM Software (www.Rommanasoftware.com). In this role, he is the Chief Architect of an Integrated Software Lifecycle Management System.

Dr. Hanna also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Software Test Professionals, a publication of the International Institute for Software Testing, now the Bug Free Zone (www.iist.org/bugfreezone.php). As a professor of Software Engineering at the University of St. Thomas , he taught graduate courses on several software engineering topics with emphasis on practical software quality techniques. Dr. Hanna consults with companies to define and improve their software processes using disciplined software engineering approaches.

Dr. Hanna developed new approaches and methods in software engineering including the Scenario-Based Development and Testing (SBDT), Requirement-Based Project Management (RBPM), Software Quality Engineering Methodology (SQEngineer), the Unified Data Model (UDM), and the Data-Driven Object Model ( DOM ). Dr. Hanna and his instructors conduct hundreds of free online webinars each year.

Dr. Hanna holds a Ph.D. and a Masters Degree in Computer and Information Sciences form the University of Minnesota , also a Masters in Operations Research from Cairo University , and B. Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Suez Canal University, Egypt.


Dr. Vladimir Belorusets

Dr. Vladimir Belorusets specializes in test automation and testing methodology, holding certifications as a Certified Tester by ASTQB and Certified ScrumMaster. Dr. Belorusets is the author of various articles published in Methods & Tools, Testing Experience (Germany), Agile Record (Germany), Software Testing Magazine, Software Test & Quality Assurance, Software Test & Performance and StickyMinds.com. He has also been a speaker at many conferences: Atlassian Summits, Software Test Professionals, HP Software Universe, and STARWEST.

Throughout his career, Vladimir has held development and QA management positions at Bluescape, SafeNet, Xerox, EMC, Siebel and CSAA. Dr. Belorusets earned his PhD in Control Systems from Institute for Systems Analysis of Russian Academy of Sciences (ISA RAS).

For over 20 years, Vladimir has been teaching numerous courses on test automation and testing fundamentals at various San Francisco Bay Area computer schools. Currently at IIST, Dr. Belorusets is presenting the following popular classes: “Mastering Java for Testers”, “Mastering Python for Testers”, “Mastering Selenium in Java (including Maven, JUnit and Jenkins)”, “Mastering REST Assured for REST API Test Automation”, “Android Test Automation with Appium in Java”, and “Mastering Selenium in Python with pytest”.


Mary Romero Sweeney

Mary Romero Sweeney has 30 years experience in Information Technology focusing on databases, software programming and software testing. She has worked for Boeing Defense and Space Group and then moved into the dotcom industry and most recently worked for Microsoft for six years in Entertainment and Devices leading the Business Intelligence team for the Xbox and Kinect. She has degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from Seattle University and a Software Program Management certification from Carnegie Mellon University. She received the TDWI Certified Business Intelligence Professional in 2011 and is a SQL Server MCP. She has published multiple industry articles on a variety of IT topics and published two software testing books. She began teaching at the college level 18 years ago and enjoys that the most.



Robin F. Goldsmith JD

Robin Goldsmith JD is internationally recognized as an authority on business engineering and software acquisition/development quality, testing, and productivity. He is a frequent speaker at leading conferences and formerly International Vice President of the Association for Systems Management. Robin is the author of the book:"Discovering REAL Business Requirements for Software Project Success".


Michael Lawler

Mr. Lawler has been involved in the IT industry since 1984. Prior to joining his current firm in 1997, Mr. Lawler worked for a major international hotel chain where he held several positions finishing his career as an IT Director for the Chicago area. Mr. Lawler has been a team member and team lead on a variety of software quality projects across several industries including Financial, wholesale and retail consumer products sales and distribution, technology, and many others. Mr. Lawler has managed several projects involving implementing effective Quality Assurance and Quality Control process designed for a risk-based approach, Test Strategy development, as well as implementation of Test Automation for both Functional and Performance testing. Mr. Lawler provides project support and oversight for software quality project teams, including Test Automation Analysts, on an ongoing basis.


Fernando Carrillo

F.Carrillo is a recognized consultant and instructor in the discipline of software testing. He holds the CSTP certification and he has been involved in the IT and Software Testing industry since 1997. F.Carrillo has experience roles like software tester, test manager, developer, software test consultant and Director of QA in different industries like telecommunications, insurance, banking, manufacture, beverages, pharmaceutical and foods, in countries like Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Denmark, Germany, England and USA. He has implemented software testing areas, procedures, process and best practices in different international companies. F.Carrillo has trained more than 2,000 professionals in the last 10 years, and has a huge passion and enthusiasm for Software Testing Discipline.


Paul Grossman

Paul Grossman has over eight years experience in Software Test Automation delivering solution projects on a variety of technical platforms. He has a demonstrated record of leadership and project management. With extensive experience with life-cycle methodologies, Paul is experienced in identifying and managing project risks. Known for his effective communication skills, he has presented as a Track Speaker at several quality assurance conferences which include HP Software Universe, Mercury World, and a variety of User's Group Meetings. Paul has delivered process and automated tool training for several organizations. In each presentation, Paul shares his real world experience, techniques, and best practices to maximize the test automation investment.


Michael Yudanin

Michael Yudanin is a seasoned IT professional, who specializes in management of IT services delivery and in process improvement consulting. His management skills are based on best practices and leading standards like CMMI, IEEE and ISO, streamlines software life cycle processes and achieves higher product quality through process improvement. Michael provides solutions for complex software development environments, e.g., large scale implementation of highly customized software products and distributed organizations. He is very knowledgeable in the latest developments with IT processes and technologies. Michael is very dependable and professional. He is Certified by the American Society for Quality as a Software Quality Engineer (CSQE).


Jay Ruuska

Jay Ruuska is a consultant specializing in software test automation. He helps teams develop and implement test-automation strategies and architectures. Recent clients include Cisco Systems, Westinghouse, and the Gap. He also provides training for automated GUI validation. Previously he held positions at IBM and EDS in the United States and abroad.

Jay has been involved in the disciplines of user-interface testing (usability, functional validation, visual defect detection, and user-acceptance testing) across various media since 1987. He is an honors graduate of the University of North Texas and has been a featured speaker in North America, Europe, and Asia.


Mike Ennis

Mike Ennis has over 20 years of experience with all phases of testing. Mike has a very deep technology and testing background and has led numerous test teams both on and off-shore. Additionally, Mike has conducted test assessments, created process improvement initiatives, created test strategies, test plans and has led execution efforts at various clients such as IBM, BMC Software and Intuit. He is a Senior Manager specializing in planning and executing testing efforts From an industry perspective, Mike is a Certified Software Testing Engineer, Certified Software Quality Analyst, a Certified Foundation Level Tester as well a respected speaker, mentor & coach at some of the largest software testing conferences globally.


Dr. Subraya BM

Dr. Subraya BM, Vice President, currently works for Education and Research Department, Infosys Limited, Mysore, India. His area of research is in Software Testing and in particular Web Performance testing. He has been responsible for starting a Performance Testing Centre (InPTC) and consulted many customer projects in the area of Performance testing. He has offered tutorials in Web Performance Testing in many pre-conference Tutorials including QAI, SEPG and PSQT international Conferences. He is the author of a book titled "Integrated Approach to Web Performance Testing: A Practitioner's Guide" published by IRM Press, USA. He has more than 18 years of academic experience and 13 years' in IT industry. Dr. Subraya holds a Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Computer Science & Engineering Department, in the area of hardware verification.


Al Sorkowitz

Mr. Al Sorkowitz was a Computer Scientist with the Department of the Navy where he was responsible for developing large, real-time software intensive systems. Prior to joining the Dept of the Navy, he was Director of the Standards and Quality Control Staff, at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. While at HUD, he initiated a successful testing procedure to improve the quality of unit testing that utilizes automated tools and testing metrics. A paper on this effort was published in a special issue of the IEEE Computer Society magazine "Computer" devoted to Software Quality Assurance, and was later reprinted and widely distributed in the Department of Defense Computer Institute "Selected Computer Articles"

The seminars presented by Mr. Sorkowitz are the practical hands-on "lessons learned" by himself and his staff, developing software in-house, as well as the experience working with a large number of software contractors.

Mr. Sorkowitz has published papers and has presented seminars on Software Metrics, SQA, and Testing at conferences sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, ACM, DPMA, and the British Computer Society.


Tom Igielski

Tom Igielski has over 20 years of experience in the IT / QA field. Tom currently specializes in Quality Assurance, Automated Testing, Software Development Process and Application Performance Management. Over the last four years, Tom has focused on all aspects of web application performance testing, including those associated with configuration and scalability. Tom has managed enterprise Quality Assurance Program implementations across multi-division corporations, with a special focus on using automated tools to do functional, regression, and load testing. He routinely consults with clients in the selection, training and review of outsourced work activities in the areas of Quality Assurance and Software Testing. He holds a Certified Software Test Engineer (CSTE) certification from the Quality Assurance Institute and holds LoadRunner CPC Certification from Mercury Interactive. He is a Mercury Certified Instructor (CI).


Clyneice Chaney

Clyneice holds certifications from American Society for Quality as a Certified Quality Manager, Quality Assurance Institute's Certified Quality Analyst, and Project Management Institute's Professional Project Manager.

Focusing on process improvement and procedure development in the software testing and quality assurance areas, Clyneice has successfully lead process improvement, methodology development, and reengineering projects for organizations wishing to improve their software development, testing processes, and tool implementation. She serves as an examiner for Virginia 's State Quality Award.

Clyneice is currently an instructor for the International Institute for Software Testing and has presented technical papers at the Software Engineering Institute: SEPG Conference, American Society for Quality: Quality Manager's conference, Quality Assurance Institute International Testing conference and STAR East Testing and the Quality Assurance Institute conference.


Dr. Timothy Korson

Dr. Timothy Korson has had a decade of substantial experience working on a large variety of systems developed using modern software engineering techniques. This experience includes distributed, real time, embedded systems as well as business information systems in an n-tier, client-server environment. Dr. Korson's typical involvement on a project is as a senior management consultant with additional technical responsibilities to ensure high quality, robust test and quality assurance processes and practices. Dr. Korson has authored numerous articles, and co-authored a book on Object Technology Centers. He has given frequent invited lectures at major international conferences and has contributed to the discipline through original research. The lectures and training classes he presents are highly rated by the attendees.



Doug Ashbaugh

Douglas A. Ashbaugh, CISSP, CISA, CSSLP has more than 20 years combined experience in Project Management, Information Security; Risk and Vulnerability Assessment; Systems Acquisition; Systems Development, Integration, and Testing; Regulatory Compliance; Emergency Response and Recovery; and Training Development. He currently leads a team of dedicated information security analysts in providing security strategy and solutions, evaluation and assessment services, application security services and security remediation services to both corporate as well as various federal, state and municipal government clients. His 20+ years of Information Systems experience in both government and commercial environments provides a solid foundation to achieve outstanding results in various environments . He is part of the first class of professionals to receive the Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification. He is a published author of: "Security Software Development: Assessing and Managing Security Risks" (2008).


Raghav Pal

Raghav Pal has over 10 years of experience in Automation, Testing, DevOps, and CI. He has worked as an Automation Test Architect and has led multiple teams of automation engineers. Raghav has witnessed, worked and delivered a variety of Automation Testing Projects and has worked with some awesome people in this industry.

A few years ago, he felt a need to share and hand-over his knowledge to anyone and everyone who needs it and anyone who wants to learn Automation testing in a very basic, simple, step-by-step manner. Since then, Raghav is actively working towards training & education and has found his passion in teaching. Raghav teaches UI, API, Mobile automation platforms and tools like Selenium, Postman, SoapUI, Katalon Studio, Appium, Robot Framework. Performance testing tools like JMeter & continuous integration, delivery, deployment and DevOps tools like Jenkins, Git, and many other tools, technologies & platforms on test automation.
